Step by Step on the process of getting a driving license in Abu dhabi
To aquire a driving license in abu dhabi or anywhere in UAE is like acomplishing a big task. Because the process and tests we have to face and pass is too much. But the government have made is clear and simple which is really helpful for someone who love to take a driving license in Abu Dhabi.
Before i started planning to apply for a driving license i had so much questions and there was not much of resource where i can get answers for my questions. So that is the reason why i wanted to write a blog to help others who wanted to open a driving license in Abu dhabi
1) Where to open a driving license file in Abu Dhabi in UAE??
If you live in Abu Dhabi, you can open a file in Emirates Driving Company in Musaffa.Ladies can open the driving license file in Muroor police station as well. I heard there are other police stations where you can open file for driving license( not sure which all ). For more details you can contact the live support chat or call the customer care in Abu Dhabi e-government website. Make sure the police station where you open the file have eye testing facility otherwise we have to get eye test done from outside.
2) How to go to Emirates Driving company in Musaffa to open a driving license file?
You could get a taxi from any where in the city which could cost
atleast 50 - 60 AED. So its better to get a friend so you can share you
taxi fare. Buses are also available to Musaffa EDC. Shared taxi is also available from city for a cheap transit.
3) Where is Emirates Driving Company?
It is located in Musaffa. Every Taxi driver knows this place and they will drop you at the exact location. You can visit there website to know more about it.

4) What are the documents i should have for opening the driving license?
You should carry following things with you while opening a driving license file
Depends on the country, If you are from India, then you should get attested from the Indian embassy. For other countries, you have to check with the emirates driving company.
6) Can i get a driving license in uae without siting for theory or practical test?
Yes, Only if you have a license giving from the below countries:

7) What time i should reach Emirates driving company to open a file ?
Ans : Musaffa emirates driving company will be open from 7:30 am till 3 pm. Since they have token system, It will be first cum first basis. So earlier u want to leave, the earlier you should reach the place.
8) You have any suggestion, as you have already been to open a driving liscence file?
Ans: I would say its always better to keep every documents with you before you visit the place to open a file, Because if you miss one document they gonna sent you back and its gonna be hard if you came all the way from city.
9) What are the procedures to open a driving licence file in Abu Dhabi, UAE ?
Ans: First get a taxi or bus and go to Emirates Driving company in Mussaffa. Every taxi driver knows the place. If you are looking for a cheap transportation, look for the pick up taxi or so called patani taxi. The normal taxi would cost around AED 50+ if you are travelling from Abu Dhabi mall area. Its always better to go early, so you can get back home early too.
First, when you reach musaffa you can see two buildings for emirates driving company. One building is for the file opening related stuff and other building for booking test and training etc. Ask someone in the compound and they would definitely be able to show you the rite building for file opening.
Once you enter the building, there will be a security guy asking where you want to go. For driving license file opening, Its on the first floor. So as soon as you get into the building you could see steps on the right to the first floor. In first floor, you can see a huge hall with lot of chairs and counters as if like a waiting area in the airport. But as soon as you get into the hall, on the right side you can see a counter which is like a reception area where there will be a guy in police uniform siting. You have to first submit all the documents there, So they will check and verify if you have all the correct documents and then they will give you a token for door number 13 which is where you take your eye test. (Incase, if you forgot to take a photo copy of some document, Don't worry, as there is a guy siting on the left side with a scanner and printer where you can take a copy of your documents. But it cost 2 AED for 1 print. So make sure you take coins for that. ) .
So after you get your token for eye test . You walk to the opposite side, which is to the left of the hall where there is an optician who would conduct your eye test which would cost around 30 AED. As soon as you are done with your eye test, they will give you another token where you go to the opposite side and wait till you token number is called.
When they call your token number , you have to take all the documents and go to the respective counter where they verify your documents and take photo. They will also ask if you want manual or automatic. After verifying all the documents for opening a driving license file, they will provide you a paper which you should show while taking the test. For people who already have hometown license they will provide you a driving pre-licence card which we can start learning using the card.
Thats it .. You have successfully opened your UAE driving license file. Its valid for 6 months from the date of opening.
10) I have opened the driving license file . So whats next ?
Ans : After opening the file , Its compulsory to sit for a 4 day theory class ( its mandatory for everyone).
11) Where should i register for theory class?
Ans: After you open the driving license file, you will get a evaluation sheet. With that you have to go to the next building in emirates driving company in musaffaa where you can register to a theory class
12) what are the documents needed for registering the driving license theory class?
Ans: You need a copy of your passport, visa and emirates ID . Also i recommend to get a copy of all the papers that they have provided to you while opening the file.
13) What are the process for registering the theory class?
Ans : As soon as you open the file from musaffa emirates driving school, with the required documents, go to the next building or ask anyone in emirates driving school and they will be able to show you the building to register theory test.
As soon as you get in, you can see a reception desk straight in the middle of the building. Show the documents that you received while opening the driving license file and they will give you a form to fill out. Collect the form and fill it ( Make sure you bring a pen as its hard to find a pen there ). Its a simple form where you fill out you details. They will also provide you a slip where you can see the price of each theory class. After filling the form, ask for the typing area where they will arrange the documents and pin it for you. Using the pin documents, go to the front reception again, where they will check the documents and provide you a token number.
14) What is the price of the theory exam for driving license in UAE?
Ans: Price various according to the type of license you are applying for

- NOC from the company in arabic
- Copy of visa page
- Arabic transulated and embassy attested copy of driving license ( If you have license in your home country )

Ans : You have to provide the following document
Passport and valid visa copy
Emirates ID copy
2 Photos
Copy of Traffic Appointment slip ( You get after you open a driving license file )
Copy of Training card ( if available )
15) Can i pay through credit card ?
Ans : Credit or Debit cards are not accepted in any of the counters. But if you have only card, there is an ATM machine besides the entrance of the building.
16) How long is the theory class?
Ans: 4 day theory class is mandatory for everyone who is applying for a driving license in Abu Dhabi,UAE. The duration of class is 1 or 2 hours per day.
17) When do i get the date for the theory class?
Ans: While registering for theory class they do ask for the dates. You can tell the date you want. But according to availability they will assign the class for the respective dates. Class timing starts from 6:15 am to 10pm
18) I have work from 9am to 6pm. So how do i go for theory class?
Ans: You can either choose a class at 6 am which will finish by 7 or 8 else you can choose a class after 7pm
19) I am not that good in English , So how do i attend the theory class with my little english knowledge?
Ans: Theory class are conducted in most of the local languages. Classes are available in Arabic, English, Urdu, Malayalam, Pashto and other national languages. You could choose your mother tongue for theory course and exam.
20) What are the things i would receive when i register for theory course ?
Ans: After paying the amount, you would receive a picture guide hand book to learn which includes everything that will be taught in the theory class.
